Council secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Md Ariff said some suggestions had been made to change the road name but it was still at the initial stage.
He said the council received an application from Persatuan Karyawan Perak to make the changes earlier this week.
The association had wanted to commemorate Pawang Ana, a well-known author in the state during the 1850s, with a road name.
Abdul Rahman said changing any road name was not a simple task.
“It needs a lot of considerations and discussions.
“There is a need to consider the impact it has on the people, especially residents who are living along the road,” Abdul Rahman said after a working visit to Kampung Sungai Tapah, Gugusan Manjoi here in Ipoh on Wednesday.
”We will also need to get feedbacks from the public and consider other aspects,” he said.
The association had also made a similar application to the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council to rename Riverfront Kuala Kangsar to Tebing Lam Sayong.
The reason given was that Kuala Kangsar was famous for its “labu sayong” (ceramics), which also holds historical values to the district. Starmetro 15.7.2011
